Bosman, Caryl
HistoryCaryl Bosman was born and grew up in South Africa. She gained a Diploma in Architecture in 1983 from Durban Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) in 1995 from the University of South Australia (UniSA). Her PhD thesis, ‘Building “community”: sites of production, planning practices and technologies of suburban government in the making of the Golden Grove development, 1984-2003’ was awarded by UniSA in 2005. She has been employed in architectural practices in South Africa, London and Australia, including Flightpath Architects and Taylor, Cullity, Lethlean in Adelaide. Bosman is currently (2010) a lecturer in the Griffith School of Environment where she has taught in both architectural and planning degree programs. A member of the Urban Research Program at Griffith University her research interests focus on urban histories, urban design, residential landscapes and geography of climate change. She has a special interest in planning for ideas of community, child-friendly cities and placemaking discourses in tourist cities.
