Forum Club,
HistoryThe Forum Club was a group of Adelaide architects, engineers and students who formed an architectural club in 1929, when the Depression meant that there was not enough work to keep them fully employed. The club set design exercises which were to be completed within a set time frame, usually 1 to 2 hours. The drawings produced range from pencil only renderings to pen and wash and elaborate watercolours. The subject matter for the design problems range from magazine covers to libraries, and memorial tablets to fountains. Following the Depression many of these architects and engineers went on to become well known and respected practitioners. Members of the Forum Club included: Clifford C. Jenner, Stanley Pointer, Reginald J. Bridgland, L. Gregory Bruer, Norman Fisher, Walter J. White, Alec Russell, T. A. McAdam, Norman C. Foster, Colin Alexander, Frank E. Hurren, Lance H. L. Gooden, and Gordon Beaumont-Smith.
